White Paper on Sustainable Tourism Governance in the Euro-MED Area: Tourism and Climate Adaptation Dr. Ioannis Pappas, Director for the Mediterranean Region at the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), was one of the contributing authors of the newly published White Paper on Sustainable Tourism Governance in the Euro-MED Area: Tourism and Climate Adaptation. Developed within the framework of the Dialogue4Tourism Project under the Interreg Euro-MED Programme 2021–2027, the white paper provides an in-depth analysis of climate-related challenges facing tourism in the Mediterranean and outlines strategic adaptation and governance measures to address them.

Dr. Pappas contributed insights grounded in his extensive experience with sustainability standards and regional destination management. The document draws from research, policy frameworks, and practical case studies to propose resilient, climate-adaptive solutions for the tourism sector.

The white paper outlines GSTC’s role in managing global standards for sustainable travel and tourism and in accrediting certification bodies, in alignment with broader initiatives such as the UNWTO’s Glasgow Declaration and the EU Tourism Transition Pathway.
