The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) is pleased to announce that Mandarin Oriental, a GSTC Member with GSTC-Committed status, has achieved GSTC Certification* for all 40 eligible hotels across its global portfolio. This important milestone reflects the Group’s continued commitment to responsible tourism and reinforces its long-standing efforts to embed credible sustainability practices throughout its operations worldwide.

Each Mandarin Oriental hotel has achieved certification following a full, individual on-site audit conducted by GSTC-accredited certification bodies. This rigorous process ensures comprehensive, property-level verification against the GSTC Hotel Standard covering sustainable management, community benefit, cultural heritage protection, and environmental stewardship.

As part of this achievement, several Mandarin Oriental hotels have also set precedents within their respective markets:

  • Mandarin Oriental, Doha – the first GSTC-certified hotel in Qatar
  • Mandarin Oriental Al Faisaliah, Riyadh – the first in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid – the first in Madrid
  • Mandarin Oriental, New York – the first in North America
  • Mandarin Oriental, Canouan – the first in St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Kandé Camara, Chief of Staff and Group Director of Sustainability at Mandarin Oriental, said: “Achieving GSTC certification across our entire portfolio through individual, on-site audits is a significant moment for Mandarin Oriental. It confirms that every one of our hotels is aligned with the GSTC Hotel Standard, while reflecting the unique social, cultural, and environmental context of each destination. This milestone is the result of sustained commitment and the dedication of our teams worldwide.”

“As a GSTC-Committed organization, Mandarin Oriental’s achievement of 100% GSTC Certified properties reflects a strong focus on credibility and transparency. Through meaningful operational engagement at the property level, the group is embedding sustainability practices across its portfolio and setting a strong benchmark for sustainable tourism within the luxury hospitality sector.” Said GSTC CEO, Randy Durband.

Mandarin Oriental gained GSTC-Committed status in 2024, meaning it adopted the GSTC Hotel Standard with a clearly documented plan and implementation, which the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) reviewed.
