(Accredited Certification)

Certification numbers are rapidly growing amongst the easyJet holidays offering, meaning customers can select from thousands of popular hotels across their range of Europe’s most loved beach and city destinations.
Hostelworld
The framework is aligned with GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) criteria and is built around four key pillars. It also features four progressive levels that reflect each hostel’s advancement:
- Level 1 – For hostels just beginning their sustainability efforts.
- Level 2 – For those that have started implementing a sustainability strategy.
- Level 3 – For hostels ready to be audited by a GSTC-accredited certification body.
- Level 3+ – For hostels that have completed an audit and are fully certified by a GSTC-accredited certification body.
All hostels at Level 2 are subject to a spot check desk audit by a GSTC–accredited certification body. From Level 3 up a full on-site audit is required. Hostelworld recognises hostels who have been verified to GSTC-Recognised Standards or who have already been certified by affording them the corresponding level on their platform.

EXO Travels’ approach on highlighting certified hotels
For GSTC certified hotels /hotels that have obtained GSTC certification, hotels may upload their valid certificate and receive a “High Confidence” status without undergoing the full audit process, as EXO adhere to the GSTC questionnaire criteria sets. For this case, EXO conducts a “light” audit and still ask them to be on the Hotel Resilient platform to get their self assessment scores but we do not ask for as much evidence as for the ones that are not certified. Hotels have to upload their GSTC valid certification and complete all questions to the platform.
For hotels with other sustainability certificates, EXO believes hotels should have the supporting data and documentation readily available. In this kind of cases, EXO request the contracting team who is own hotel accountability in each destination to convince and encourage hotels to upload files to the platform properly.
