The European Commission has initiated the development of a comprehensive EU Sustainable Tourism Strategy, aiming to ensure that tourism in Europe remains competitive, sustainable, and inclusive.

European Commission Launches Consultation on EU Sustainable Tourism Strategy

As part of this process, a consultation has been launched to gather input from stakeholders across the tourism ecosystem. This initiative invites authorities, businesses, civil society, and other interested parties to identify priorities and raise challenges that may not have been fully addressed previously in the Transition Pathway for Tourism or the EU Agenda for Tourism 2030.

The consultation is open until August 15, 2025, and can be accessed via the EU Survey at https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/TourismStrategy. Participants are encouraged to focus on their areas of expertise and are not required to complete the entire questionnaire.

Through this effort, the European Commission aims to shape a smart, resilient, and sustainable tourism model in Europe, one that supports local communities, businesses, and the broader travel experience. Key themes addressed include overtourism, environmental sustainability, skills development, crisis resilience, and cross-border mobility.

A broader public consultation will be launched following the targeted consultation phase. For questions or technical issues, the European Commission can be contacted at MOVE-TOURISM@ec.europa.eu.

GSTC encourages stakeholders in the tourism sector to participate and share their perspectives to help shape the future of sustainable tourism in Europe.
