Jorge en GuatemalaThe Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) joined the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT) Sustainable Tourism Bootcamps, held across four key destinations in the country: Guatemala City, Antigua Guatemala, Quetzaltenango, and Retalhuleu.

The workshops brought together more than 137 tourism stakeholders, local authorities, and community representatives. The goal was to strengthen local capacities to move toward a more sustainable, competitive, and internationally aligned tourism model.

Jorge Moller, GSTC’s Program Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, guided participants throughout the sessions, enriching the meetings with a global perspective, examples of international best practices, and practical strategies for their daily operations. He emphasized the importance of the GSTC Standards, the global standards for sustainability in travel and tourism.

“The support of the GSTC has been essential in advancing toward a sustainable, competitive, and internationally recognized tourism model. These achievements represent a solid step toward positioning Guatemala as a regional leader in sustainable tourism,” highlighted INGUAT.

Through a participatory methodology, the sessions provided practical tools focused on international sustainability standards, responsible resource management, and innovation strategies.

“Seeing the enthusiasm and commitment of those who want to learn and apply sustainability reminds us that change is already underway. Thank you to the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT) for inspiring and bringing together so many actors committed to a more sustainable future,” said Jorge Moller.
