GSTC participated in the 8th Goyang Destination Week, August 20-23, organized in collaboration with ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) and DI (Destinations International). This year, under the theme “Navigating the Growth of the Business Events Industry,” discussions focused on four key areas: Technology, Personalization, Sustainability, and Return on Investment (ROI).
At the event, Randy Durband, GSTC CEO, delivered a session on “Branding Regeneration: How MICE Can Power the Sustainable Cities of Tomorrow” along with colleague Guy Bigwood, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Changemaker of GDS-Movement.

Mr. Durband highlighted how adopting the GSTC MICE Standard for Venues, Event Organizers, and Events & Exhibitions can benefit the entire business events ecosystem by providing precise and measurable practices that reduce negative impacts while maximizing positive outcomes.
By following the GSTC MICE Standards, cities and destinations can strengthen their reputation as responsible hosts, attract international events that prioritize sustainability, and create long-term value for local communities. The GSTC MICE Standard serves as a roadmap to transform the MICE sector into a sustainable driver of economic growth, environmental stewardship, and social inclusion.
