TOKYU HOTELS has joined as a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)
TOKYU HOTELS is a hotel brand operated by the Tokyu Group, managing a portfolio of hotels across Japan. Through its hotel operations, the company provides accommodation and hospitality services across a range of brands, serving both business and leisure travelers throughout its properties in urban centers and regional destinations.
Sustainability Commitment
TOKYU HOTELS structures its sustainability approach around three sustainability aims: an eco-friendly hotel, a hotel that is friendly to the town, and a friendly hotel. These aims define the overall direction of the company’s sustainability efforts and reflect its intention to address environmental, social, and operational considerations through its hotel activities.
These three aims are supported by six key sustainability themes that guide implementation across its operations: a decarbonized and recycling-oriented society, town planning, safety and security, comfort, human resource development, and corporate governance and compliance. Through these themes, the company describes its approach to reducing environmental impact through energy efficiency and resource management, contributing to local communities and regional development, ensuring safe and reliable operations, enhancing guest comfort and accessibility, supporting employee development and working environments, and maintaining governance and compliance practices as part of its sustainability initiatives.
Tokyu Hotels states that its vision is centered on delivering hospitality that contributes to society through its business activities. According to the company, it aims to create comfortable and welcoming environments for guests while maintaining relationships with local communities and pursuing service quality and operational practices aligned with its corporate philosophy and management principles, as outlined on its corporate website.
Takashi Takei, President and Representative Director at Tokyu Hotels & Resorts Co., Ltd. said: “We are very proud to have joined as a Member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. This is not a demonstration of what we have already done, but a declaration of our commitment to continually improve ourselves in accordance with international standards and diverse values. We will earnestly seek to fulfil our role as a hotel operator to ensure Japanese tourism continues to be trusted and chosen by the world.”

About GSTC
The Global Sustainable Tourism Council® (GSTC®) establishes and manages global sustainable standards, the GSTC Standards, also known as the GSTC Criteria. The GSTC Destination Standard for public policy-makers and destination managers, the GSTC Hotel Standard for hotels and accommodations, the GSTC Tour Operator Standard, the GSTC MICE Standard for Venues, Event Organizers, and Events & Exhibitions, and the GSTC Attraction Standard for tourist attractions such as theme parks, museums, and national parks. These are the guiding principles and minimum requirements that any tourism business or destination should aspire to reach in order to protect and sustain the world’s natural and cultural resources while ensuring tourism meets its potential as a tool for conservation and poverty alleviation.
The GSTC Standards form the foundation for GSTC’s assurance role for Certification Bodies that certify hotels/accommodations, tour operators, and destinations as having sustainable policies and practices in place. GSTC does not directly certify any products or services but provides accreditation to those that do.
GSTC is an independent and neutral USA-registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization that represents a diverse and global membership, including national and provincial governments, leading travel companies, hotels, tour operators, NGOs, individuals and communities – all striving to achieve best practices in sustainable tourism. The GSTC is an ISEAL Community Member, a global membership organization for ambitious, collaborative, and transparent sustainability systems, as well as an Association Member of The International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and an Associate Member with the Inter-American Accreditation Cooperation (IAAC).
