The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course, held in partnership with Wise Steps Consulting (WSC) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, concluded on October 17th, 2025, after two days of in-depth learning and exchange. Hosted at the Greenhost Boutique Hotel in Yogyakarta, the program brought together a group of participants committed to learning about advancing sustainability within the tourism sector.
The course was delivered by GSTC Trainer Mochamad Nalendra, Founder and CEO of WSC, whose knowledge of sustainable tourism provided participants with a hands-on learning experience, with real-world applications in destinations and hospitality operations. Mr. Nalendra dove deep into the importance of the GSTC Standards (formerly known as the GSTC Criteria), which serve as the global standards for sustainability in travel and tourism.
The group has the opportunity to visit Gunung Api Purba Nglanggeran Ecotourism Area, a well-known ecotourism destination in the Yogyakarta region. The visit provided participants with the opportunity to observe a practical example of tourism management focused on environmental conservation, community involvement, and the preservation of the area’s geological and cultural heritage.
The 31 participants gained a comprehensive understanding of sustainability principles and their practical application through the course, strengthening their capacity to align tourism practices with responsible, sustainable approaches across the sector.
