The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training Private Training Class for Furano City, sponsored by Furano Sustainable Action Promotion Meeting, held in Furano City, Hokkaido, Japan, from the 6th to the 8th of November 2025, concluded successfully.
GSTC Trainer Kazuhiro Arai, CEO of Daisetsuzan Experience, shared his knowledge and expertise through practical examples and valuable insights, providing participants with a deep understanding of the GSTC Standards, their relevance, and their use across different contexts within the tourism sector.
The group visited the Furano City Recycling Center, where they learned about the city’s waste management systems, recycling processes, and local efforts to promote environmental responsibility and circular economy practices. The visit was followed by a tour of several drama filming locations in Furano City, offering an opportunity to explore how the region’s natural landscapes and urban settings have been featured in popular productions, while also highlighting the connection between local culture, tourism, and creative industries.


The class concluded with an overview of how environmental management, local culture, and tourism activities coexist in Furano City, offering a general perspective on the destination’s sustainability approach.
