Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has released its 14th annual Sustainability Report, showcasing the Group’s ongoing efforts to integrate sustainable practices across its portfolio of luxury hotels and residences worldwide. The report outlined significant progress towards environmental and social targets, underscoring the Group’s commitment to responsible business operations.
The report stated that the Group reduced energy intensity by 21% and carbon intensity by 30% per square meter, and has tracked Scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2012. In 2024, the Group began quantifying Scope 3 emissions to identify further opportunities for de-intensification. Water intensity was reduced by 13%, and waste intensity fell by 37%, against a target of 50% by 2030. The Group eliminated 99% of single-use plastics and achieved 100% responsibly sourced coffee, tea, cocoa, vanilla, sugar, and paper, verified by LRQA. They also avoided serving endangered seafood species in line with WWF guidelines.
100% of employees completed an e-learning course on safe, respectful, and inclusive workplaces. Colleague Resource Groups were established to promote inclusion, equity, and diversity.
GSTC Certification
The Group proudly announced its GSTC certification of 23 Mandarin Oriental properties. This achievement marks a significant milestone in Mandarin Oriental’s efforts to align with the GSTC Standards. The Group reaffirmed its ambition to extend GSTC certification across all its hotels by 2025, further embedding sustainable tourism principles into its operations and guest experiences.

GSTC2024 Singapore
Mandarin Oriental participated in the GSTC Global Conference in Singapore last year. Sebastian Chung, Director of Safety, Health, Hygiene & Environment at Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, and Iris Lam, Director of Sustainability, Global Development, were on the panel alongside technology innovators, including Marc Zornes, Founder of Winnow, discussing digital solutions that promote sustainable practices, such as Mandarin Oriental’s food waste reduction partnership with Winnow.
