The Yuluca Alliance Shares Perspectives on Regional Collaboration at GSTC2025 in Fiji

On August 6, 2025, some of the  Yuluca Alliance (AYLAC) representatives came together during the GSTC2025 Global Conference in Fiji for an informative meeting. The gathering, held on the first official day of the conference, brought together conference participants from across Latin America and the Caribbean to exchange perspectives and strengthen collaboration. 

Highlighting the region’s commitment to advancing a common goal towards a sustainable region, Jorge Moller,GSTC’s Latin American and Caribbean Program Director, presented the main advances achieved since the Alliance’s launch in September 2024, following the First GSTC Latin American and Caribbean Summit in Santa Marta, Colombia. Mr. Moller  emphasized both progress made and the importance of maintaining open dialogue around the region’s diverse perspectives and challenges. The encounter created an opportunity  for participants to exchange views on shared objectives and to identify regional priorities, with a particular focus on the need of strengthening sustainable tourism practices in the region.

“This space in Fiji allowed us to reconnect, share experiences, and reflect on the progress achieved in such a short time. Above all, what truly matters is continuing to build an open dialogue that helps us identify common priorities and strengthen regional cooperation,” said Jorge Moller. 

During the GSTC 2025 Global Conference in Fiji, Mr. Moller also joined as a panelist in the session “Connecting Global Partners with Local Community Development”, alongside Becky Last (Senior Sustainable Tourism Expert), Jane McFadzean (Trip.com Group), Libby Owen-Edmunds (Private Sector Development Specialist), and under the moderation of David Ermen (Managing Director, Destination Capacity). In his intervention, he highlighted the meaning of community, describing it as something large and powerful, yet at the same time fragile and in need of constant care. He emphasized the importance of developing common plans to stay ahead of potential threats and presented the Yuluca Alliance as well as its journey to date. The session concluded with a collective embrace, with both attendees and fellow panelists, reinforcing the idea that community is built and strengthened through connection.

The AYLAC meeting at GSTC2025 highlighted the importance of regional coordination in sustainable tourism. By providing a space  to share experiences and strategic priorities, the Alliance continues to build towards  a unified approach across Latin America and the Caribbean.
