The GSTC-SUSRUR training, sponsored by the SUSRUR Project and held from March 12 to May 21, 2025, concluded with great success, in collaboration with GSTC Training Partner Green Evolution.
Towards SUStainability and resilient scenarios for tourism SMEs in RUral & Remote Areas (SUSRUR), is a project funded by the European Commission, that aims to support SMEs from five rural & remote areas of Europe by promoting sustainability and innovative practices & strategies, while providing tools and skills to strengthen their competitiveness in a post-COVID-19 scenario, increasing their awareness and capacity to accelerate and implement the green and digital transitions.
The training focused on sustainable tourism practices in rural and remote areas, equipping participants with the knowledge, skills, and tools to implement sustainability and innovation strategies aligned with the GSTC Standards.
Led by GSTC Trainer Dr. Ioannis Pappas, the course combined engaging presentations, practical examples, and expert insights to create a dynamic and impactful learning experience.
The training also featured an inspiring lineup of guest speakers who brought their expertise in sustainable tourism. These included: Frosso Dimitrakopoulou, Sustainable Tourism Expert at Ecoclub Ltd.; Giuseppe La Carrubba, Sustainable and Experience Tourism Specialist at Appennino Slow; Maria Valerga, Sustainable Tourism Expert at VALERGA; and Ruben Derksen, Director of Products and Commercials at EXO Travel. Together, they provided participants with valuable perspectives and actionable strategies during the course.
This interactive program not only deepened the understanding of sustainability challenges and opportunities in rural and remote areas among 46 participants but also fostered meaningful connections among industry peers committed to advancing positive change.
